The Cook Building

COOK BUILDING exterior.jpg

This is a 1st Year project that I have recently revisited to create some digital images.  The brief was to redesign the entrance and outdoor area of one of the buildings of Teesside University, taking into account any issues we felt were affecting the use of the building by students and visitors, such as wayfinding, refreshments, social and seating areas and outdoor space.

These images show my redesign of the building's entrance from the exterior.  I extended the original entrance to make room for a cafe and seating area within for students.  A glass canopy extends from above the entrance doors into the street to ensure the building can be seen by passersby. The outdoor area is paved, with gabions providing seating in the shape of the university's initials.  A canopy in the university's orange shade provides protection from sun and rain.

Interior Views

The interior of the building is decorated in the traditional colour of Teesside University, with a cafe area with tables and chairs.  The building has large glass windows to maximise light and further seating for those wishing to socialise.  The design is bright and contemporary.
